The year ahead

I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for what 2019 holds. It feels like this year is ripe with opportunity and I can’t wait to watch the children in Kyampisi, Kisumu, Nateete and Bungoma thrive because of the work you’re doing.

When I think back to last year, there are so many things to be thankful for – and you made every one of those things possible! Some highlights for me were:

  • 60 children being rescued from traffickers in Uganda;
  • Benson and Shamirah coming to Australia for surgery;
  • Peter Michael being awarded the Human Rights Defenders Award by the European Union; and
  • KCM being invited by the Ugandan Government to help draft new child protection legislation.

The list could go on and on… you really helped achieve so much last year! Thank you!

Looking ahead, I’m excited to finish construction of the Early Childhood Development House at the Milele Centre. We are so close to seeing this completed, and there are so many abandoned children who desperately need this place to be finished.

I also can’t wait to see building begin on the St Pauls Rehabilitation Centre in Kyampisi. It’s taken a long time to plan this project, making sure it is well designed and sustainable, so it’s exciting to see foundations finally laid.

But I think more than anything, I’m looking forward to seeing the smiles of children who are going to school, or eating a meal, or sleeping in a bed. The children who know someone cares about them, even people who live on the other side of the world. We don’t have to see big projects completed to know our time and resources are being put to good use… we can see that in the children who are given an opportunity to live a better life.

Let’s get this year started and see change in these communities one child at a time…
